Little space is left for the butterfly-fluttering, pulse-pumping, nerve-wracking, does-he-doesn't-he unsureness of love's first moments. Set in rural Argentina, it tells the story of two young men from different social backgrounds coming to terms with their growing attraction for each other.

This is one of those films that takes its time to introduce the characters, develop their relationship, and get them together, so you need to be patient in order to get the most out of it. Despite this, the simmering sexual tension is backgrounded, and romance is foregrounded.

A power and desire game starts and their relationship grows beyond their friendship.

When Eugenio gets debris in his eye, a handsome man wants to help and heal him. Eugenio offers his childhood friend Martin a work for the summer. However, since both Eugenio and Martin are more like a guy-code person, so here we are getting a film with minutes runtime instead, lol.

Hawaii is a Spanish language romantic drama film by Argentine director Marco Berger. In the instances that it's placed front and centre, cynical demographic-targeting leaves it feeling more like fantasy fulfilment than a concerted attempt to encapsulate love's esoteric familiarity.

This movie is a masterpiece. The acting is incredibly good, the music as always in a Berger movie excellent. Briefly, that power…. Martin seeks for a temporary job at Eugenio's house.

Film Inspired By Queer

Directed by Marco Berger. Even though this was clearly made on a low budget, it was beautifully photographed, and it's got such a soothing, whimsical score. Marco Berger is one the greatest and underrated directors. On the other side of the fence, queer film doesn't treat love any more respectfully.

With Manuel Vignau, Mateo Chiarino, Luz Palazón, Antonia De Michelis. Two former childhood friends reunite in the Argentine countryside and grapple with their feelings when the relationship gets more serious. What orientates us in place and space are bodies, specifically hawaii bodies; naked torsos and sweaty crotches, flaccid penises flopping free and bare bums dripping wet from the shower.

We watch as the layers of vulnerability in the lives of Eugenio and Martin are pared back and the class differences are laid bare. With a game of power and desire a relationship starts to grow that goes film their friendship.

It just goes to show that all you really need is two hot leads to concoct some intense chemistry and wah-lah, you have a winner! Romantic love gets pretty short shrift in queer cinema nowadays, in cinema in general, actually. I envy everyone who sees it for the first time, i regret those who will never watch it.

Marco Berger's Hawaii is a highly evocative, compassionate, contemplative, and emotionally potent film that slowly builds tension between its two protagonists as they get to reconnect and grow closer to each other, remembering their childhood together. Funny how this film actually could have been finished in 1 gay if one of them was brave enough to make a move in the first half.

Romance has been pushed to the sidelines of our cinematic appetites, more often than not it is left to slavishly track alongside a faster, more action-driven "A plot" or to play second fiddle to a tangle of farce-filled character comedy.
